






Young Carers
Currently, Hethersett Woodside Primary and Nursery School are working with the Benjamin Foundation to improve our provision for Young Carers. It’s reported that 1 in 5 children are classed as a young carer with 1 in 12 taking on mid to high level care.Â
A young carer is defined as ‘a person under the age of 18 who provides care for a family member or friend who is unable to cope due to illness, disability, mental health issues, or addiction. Young carers may assist with practical tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping, as well as offering emotional support and physical care. They often take on
additional responsibilities, which can impact their education and social life. Support for young carers is crucial to help them balance their caring duties with their own needs and aspirations’
Our young Carers group meet fortnightly in our ‘Burrow’ to participate in games and crafts, share experiences and chat with friends . We are working towards our Young Carers Bronze award.
