Relationships and Sex Education
As part of PSHE, Relationship and Sex Education is taught using the RSE Solution lesson plans. We believe that all pupils have the right to receive effective, inclusive and relevant RSE that directly meets their needs, taught through accessible resources and non-judgmental approaches. Our school is committed to promoting respect, equality and understanding for diversity in all aspects of our teaching.

FAQ,s
Will we know when the lessons are being taught?
Class teachers will let you know either by email or the curriculum letter when the lessons are to be
taught so you are able to be prepared to answer any questions your child may have. It is likely for
most classes, these lessons will be taught in the first half of the summer term and will follow the
order of the lessons in the plans:
- My feelings
- My body
- My relationships
- My beliefs
- My rights and responsibilities
- Asking for help
Can we withdraw our children from RSE?
You are able to withdraw your child from some aspects of sex education, after a discussion with the
Head teacher, unless they are part of the science curriculum (for example puberty). This would
include lessons on conception and reproduction, which are taught in Year 6.
Is RSE a statutory part of the curriculum?
RSE, also referred to as RSHE has some elements which are compulsory. Relationships (R) and Health
(H) education are compulsory. We have taken advice from the DfE which suggests that although Sex
(S) education in Primary school is not compulsory, it is recommended.
Do you have outside visitors come to school to deliver lessons?
No, class teachers will deliver RSE lessons as we feel they know the children best and have a clear
and established relationship with them.
How can we help at home?
Please see the attached sheet ‘Top tips for talking to your child about tricky things’. Also attached is
a guide for Parents from the DfE.
Also, Just One Norfolk is a good place to find advice: https://www.justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/
Finally, there is an attached sheet with helpful websites about online safety.
Will the meeting take place every year?
If anything about the curriculum changes in the meantime, we will inform parents/carers, otherwise
we plan to have an annual meeting about this curriculum.
