To guide us in our behaviour management at Woodside, we employ a variety of techniques from the Steps programme (Step On and Step Up): schools.norfolk.gov.uk/article/29546/What-is-Norfolk-Steps. Staff in the school are trained in Step On and therefore have completed training on the following:
- Understanding relevant legislation/guidance
- How our school ethos/culture affects wellbeing and behaviour
- Factors that underpin behaviour
- What inclusion is and how to use behaviour support plans to support this
- Understanding the link between the brain and behaviour
- How to analyse behaviour at baseline and at escalation
- De-escalation, repairing and restoring
- Non-restrictive physical interventions
Many staff are also trained in Step Up, which involves being able to safely use more restrictive physical interventions.
