Pastoral

Pastoral care here at Woodside consists of provision to make sure the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of our pupils is cared for.

We hope that our commitment to our pastoral work feeds into everything our school does to ensure the children have the best chance of success, at school and in the wider world.

We aim to help any child by:

  • Working closely with staff and families to identify children who may need some form of extra help or advice
  • We run sessions to help children to understand their emotions and how to understand and control them. This also helps them to develop empathy and understanding of others too.
  • We can help children who are feeling anxious or upset about anything they are experiencing in life.
  • We talk about positive mental health and how this may look and feel.
  • Drawing and Talking sessions.
  • LEGO Therapy.
  • Emotional resilience sessions (known as DESTY).
  • We can work with small groups with similar needs or individuals who may need more focused help.
  • Gardening Club with Hethersett Environment Action Team at the Back Garden project (promotes positive mental health and teamwork).
  • We also have a Pets As Therapy dog every week to visit children and listen to them read.
  • Take part in friendship group work to establish positive friendships between children.

Our Pastoral Team consists of 2 members of staff:

  • Mr. Kev McCabe (Pastoral Lead)
  • Mrs. Michelle Larwood (Pastoral Support Worker)

We believe, as a whole school, that children should be able to talk about how they are feeling to any adult they feel comfortable with.
