Geography

Vision Statement

At Hethersett Woodside Primary and Nursery, our core value of respect shines through our Geography curriculum, developing pupils’ respect for their local, national and global environment. To achieve this we explore a diverse range of places, people and environments to enhance the curiosity of our children in our ever-changing world.

Learning to make sense of the world as young geographers will enable our children to be active and responsible citizens who can help to shape a sustainable future both locally and globally. Furthermore, some of our children may go on to use these skills in the workplaces of architects, conservationists, renewable energy engineers and environmental risk assessors.

We follow the CUSP (Curriculum Unity Schools Partnership) geography curriculum which is built around the principles of evidence-based practice. The curriculum is ambitious and our children are challenged to build their skills and understanding of locational knowledge, place knowledge and concepts of human and physical geography. Fieldwork is woven throughout the opportunities that our curriculum provides and it is used to enhance and support learning on both local and global scales.

We aim for our students to leave us keen and ready to continue their journey through geography with a strong understanding of the subject’s  diversity and its powerful potential to achieve understanding and change.
