(Charity number 281769)
The school has a very active Friends of Woodside Committee of volunteers mostly made up of parents at the school. They are a registered charity and any money raised goes towards funding extra activities, equipment or ideas that the school budget doesn’t stretch to.
You can join in no matter how old your child is, you can even bring your children to meetings!
The Friends arrange fundraising activities like the Christmas and Summer Fayres, as well as competitions, and social events like discos. In the past we have organised the Hethersett Bauble Trail and Scarecrow Trail too.
In recent years, projects that the Friends have funded include the school defibrillator, the Reading Marathon project (helped by a vending machine which the FOWS stock with books), painted murals throughout the school, a First News subscription for KS2, and part funding of the outdoor areas for Nursery, Reception and Year 1.
Below are the members of the committee who are assigned certain jobs, but there are many more volunteers who help with events during the year.
- Sarah Lawrence – Chair
- Kerry MacRae- Vice Chair
- Vacancy – Secretary
- Mark Keep – Treasurer
If you could spare some time and would like to join the committee, please speak to the office staff, and they will put you in touch with a FOWS member or alternatively email fows@hethersettwoodside.org.uk. They also have a dedicated volunteer Whatsapp group if you find you cannot make meetings but would still like to help.
Being a member of the FOWs is a very social, enjoyable and rewarding role. They’d love to meet you soon!
