Religious Education

Vision Statement

Our aim for Religious Education at Hethersett Woodside is to equip our children with religious literacy. Our desire is for them to be able to have informed conversations and provoke challenging questions about faith, belief, the meaning and purpose of life, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. We want them to be knowledgeable and respectful of other people, whether they are people of faith or people with none.

Using the 2019 Norfolk Locally Agreed Syllabus, our children will learn about a variety of religions and world views people have to help them better understand the world in which they live, be it locally, nationally or globally. Children will learn to recognise and understand a variety of religions and worldviews through the different lenses of theology, philosophy and human/social sciences. They will be able to identify and compare different beliefs using wisdom from different sources as well as forming their own personal views and be able to converse about these respectfully and confidently.

Through enquiry-based learning, at Woodside we enhance our teaching of religion through stories, art, objects and artefacts, visits to religious buildings when possible and welcoming visitors from different religions and worldviews to discuss their beliefs. We strongly encourage children to ask questions to explore and clarify their understanding of what they have learnt as we ultimately aim for children to become religiously literate and engage in informed conversations both in school and in the wider world.
