Vision Statement

At Hethersett Woodside Primary, we passionately believe that the children’s well–being is integral to their learning and central to the life of the school.  PSHE encompasses all areas designed to promote children’s personal, social and health development.

We aim to provide each child the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to stay healthy and safe, develop worthwhile relationships, respect differences, and develop independence, responsibility, and resilience.  All strands of our PSHE curriculum combine to build our pupil’s characters enabling them to develop emotional literacy and empathy, as well as build their awareness of social justice by exploring broader themes.  We are proud to be a School of Sanctuary.  Safeguarding is integral to the PSHE curriculum; children are taught about personal privacy, healthy relationships, online safety and who to ask for help in specific situations.

Our school values; Respect, Resilience and Responsibility are at the core of each day, and the teaching and development of PSHE knowledge and skills run throughout our daily activities and interactions.  We teach discrete lessons through a spiral curriculum that builds upon prior knowledge and delivers age appropriate content in a careful and sensitive way.  We are responsive to the needs of our children, and we use issues that arise in our class, year group, school and community as teachable moments to inform our planning.  Engagement with parents through presentation and discussion is vital to ensure that everyone involved understands what is being taught, when and how. It helps develop a shared set of values between our school and community.  We believe that all pupils have the right to receive effective, inclusive and relevant PSHE that directly meets their needs, taught through accessible resources and non-judgmental approaches.
