This is our Eco Code:
“We want to look after our world and all the creatures in it.”
Our school has been working with the global Eco-Schools programme for 15 years. Participating in this programme helps translate our school visions and values into dynamic active learning experiences for our pupils. Through Eco-Schools our pupils develop environmental awareness and are empowered to see themselves as drivers of change.
We achieved our first bronze award in 2007. In 2013 we were one of the first Infant and Nursery schools to win a Green Flag Award; a status we have maintained by gaining three subsequent Green Flag Awards. This includes our very latest flag awarded in March 2020.
Over the years we have worked on a range of topics covered by the programme: Biodiversity, School Grounds, Energy, Global Citizenship, Litter, Marine, Transport, Waste and Water.
Eco-Schools is just one of many ways that our school facilitates “pupil voice”; the right of all children to express their opinions and to be involved in decisions that involve and affect them. We are very proud of the achievements of our Eco-Committee which is made up of representatives from each year group. Champions of the environment and a healthier way of life for all, when in office, these young activists grow in self-esteem and develop skills in independent thinking, cooperative team work and communication. At Woodside, successive generations of Eco-Committee members have repeatedly inspired their peers with their drive, commitment and creativity.
Our present committee are now faced with the exciting challenge of developing our new school site for this and future cohorts. We are confident that they will rise to the occasion.
You can also help with our Eco-Schools programme. The eco-committee includes; a teacher co-ordinator, staff members, governors and community volunteers. If you would like to become involved as a parent, a community Eco-volunteer, or as a local sponsor, please contact our school office.
